Cambodia visits Thailand to deepen a knowhow on social participation support Health System

The Cambodia delegation which leads by the General Secretariat for the National Social Protection Council, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Cambodia and related national agencies visits the National Health Commission Office (NHCO) Thailand to learn on multisectoral coordination and social participation that supports and strengthen UHC and Health system of Thailand on March 26,2024 at NHCO Thailand. This visiting is under the program of Thailand UHC workshop, organized by International Health Policy Program Foundation (IHPP) Thailand.

Dr Koeut Pichenda, Deputy Secretary General, the General Secretariat for the National Social Protection Council, Cambodia, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Cambodia and Head of the delegation said that Cambodia has the draft UHC roadmap covers 3 dimension which are 1) Coverage of Population under Social Health Protection 2) Coverage of Essential Health Services 3) Financial Risk Protection and Health Financing. This roadmap was developed by the inter-ministerial mechanism and was approved by NSPC in March 2024 and it will be final approval by  the Prime minister.

The Deputy Secretary General also stressed that the people centered approach is a very importance approached because we can achieve many things and create responsive policies based on people and community need  and these are the core concept of NHCO Thailand on develop public policies via many platforms and engage with many groups of people in the society.

Dr. Tipicha Posayanonda, Assistant to Secretary General of National Health Commission Thailandsaid that health of people is influenced by many factors like poverty, social inequity, climate change, harmful health marketing or social media, therefore health is not only the mandate of Ministry of Public Health or only public health partners. But we exactly also need collaboration from non-health partners as well. Therefore, NHCO which is a governmental organization established according to the National Health Act 2007 was established to synergize all parties to create healthy public policies towards “equitable Thailand national health system” with health and non-health agencies and using a participatory public policy process via different tools and platforms.
