UNFPA Thailand and NHCO Join Forces for an Ageing and Inclusive Society for Thailand
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, led by Siriluck Chiengwong, met with Suthep Petchmak, Secretary-General of the National Health Commission (NHC), and senior executives of the National Health Commission Office (NHCO) to strengthen collaboration on policies and actions that support Thailand’s transition to a super-aged society.
The discussion focused on advancing demographic resilience and promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all, particularly children and youth, LGBTQ+ populations, older persons, persons with disabilities, and migrants. Both organizations agreed to work together at national and local levels, leveraging population data and evidence-based approaches to address emerging demographic challenges.
Key areas of cooperation for 2026 include joint policy development on ageing, co-hosting the SRHR for All Forum to generate policy recommendations for vulnerable populations, promoting SRHR through NHCO’s Health Charter mechanisms, and strengthening data collaboration to support informed policymaking. The recommendations developed through the forum will be submitted to the 19th National Health Assembly for consideration.
The partnership will also explore collaboration under the South-South Cooperation framework, support awareness of the Living Will as a health right for older persons, and promote adolescent SRHR through school health charter initiatives at the local level.
UNFPA Thailand and NHCO reaffirmed their commitment to human rights, equality, and inclusive development, working together to ensure that no one is left behind as Thailand prepares for a sustainable future in an ageing society.
